ST auctions on Swiss borders in 15 min MTU

Dear Market Participants,

The Swiss border TSOs together with JAO are pleased to announce the introduction of Short term auctions on Swiss borders in 15 min MTU. The go live of this change is provisionally scheduled for Delivery Date 02 September 2026 for DA and ID auctions on CH<>FR, CH<>DE and CH<>IT borders. The change on CH<>AT border is planned to be introduced in Q4 2026, with an exact date to be communicated at a later stage.​ Please note that the scheduled go live is conditional the Allocation Rules approval by respective NRAs as well as the successful completion of all tests. If the schedule has to be revised as a result, the project parties will communicate this clearly in the course of July 2026.

With the introduction of 15 min MTU there will be also a possibility to place your bids using Block Bids solution. Please refer to the attached Benders Decomposition Design document, which explains in detail the concept of Block bids.

The harmonization of CH borders auctions with SDAC coupled markets aims at creating consistency across European energy markets and enhance efficiency in electricity balancing processes.

As a preparation for this go-live JAO will offer the possibility to test this solution during the upcoming Open Test Session, which will take place on 17-19/06/2026.

During those 3 days Market Participants are invited to actively participate, test your systems, bidding strategy or usage of Block bids in the mentioned auctions.

Please be informed that the registration for the Open Test Session is mandatory for participation. More information about the registration dates and details about the test itself will be shared in a separate communication.
