[Core] Start date of the Core Flow-Based Long-Term Capacity Calculation External parallel run
Start date of the Core Flow-Based Long-Term Capacity Calculation External parallel run
Date: 21/11/2025
On 24 November 2025, the external parallel run of the LTCC process will start, in line with Article 22(3)(b) of the Long-term Capacity Calculation Methodology (LTCCM). Results will be published on the JAO Publication tool.
The external parallel run applies the so-called benchmark approach to improve the capacities as explained in the Core Consultative Group meeting of 16 October 2025. This benchmark approach is subject to approval by Core NRAs through an amendment of the LT CCM.
The external parallel run will begin with the yearly long-term capacity calculation and allocation for the year 2026. This includes the full allocation process as part of the external parallel run, ensuring that the methodology and operational timings are tested. Following the yearly process, the external parallel run will cover monthly long-term capacity calculations and allocations. The external parallel run will have an expected duration of 12 months. Core TSOs will report on the stability of the process and the results towards stakeholders during regularly scheduled alignments.
Communication channels
Market participants who would like to follow closer the project development are invited to join the Core Consultative Group (CCG) by subscribing to the distribution list here. The participants of the Core Consultative Group will receive regular information, and invitations to teleconferences and meetings.
Next to the Core CG, a Question & Answer Forum for the Core FB capacity calculation project is currently in use. The Forum can be accessed via https://coreforum.my-ems.net/. The Core TSOs invite all market participants to use this Forum for their queries.
About the Long-term Capacity Calculation project in the Core CCR
The Core Flow-Based Long-term Capacity Calculation (Core FB LTCC) project promotes the development and implementation of a flow-based long-term capacity calculation across the whole Core Capacity Calculation Region (Core CCR) in the framework of the FCA. The Core CCR consists of the bidding zone borders between the following EU Member States’ bidding zones: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.
Market integration - Core to energy transition
The energy transition towards a carbon free electricity supply is a European challenge that requires the use of the European electricity system to the full extent. Weather-dependent supply and increasing demand response will lead to a different and more intense use of the grid. The Core market integration project is aiming to create operational preconditions to optimise the use of the system from a regional perspective and make the single European market a reality.
